fitness now inc

advice please…..how to start racing?
hi, iv just recently got into cyclin (like the last 6 months) n love it!! iv now brought a hardtail off ebay n have done it up n want to get into racing and competing etc altho my fitness needs building – is there any events n that i cud do that are fairly easy for beginners? im not bothered bout winnin jus yet lol even if im comin in last i just want to get some experience
any advice welcome – inc trainin n diets n all that

I would definitely recommend you go watch a race first. Here in the states all of the amateur races are free to watch, and then you can see what and how races are done and how racers prepare for the races (signing up, getting ready, clothes/equipment, etc).
You are correct on the assumption that you will not win on the first race. Plan to finish the race not crashing/cause crashing, not breaking rules or getting lost (if trail is unmarked) and you’ll do better on the next race. The nutrition part is a little more tricky if you’re new into cycling, there’s a lot of things to go over but basically for a race, don’t eat too heavy before but have enough carbs- it really depends on how long the race may be.
Good luck! One other advice is hang around people you know that race, and you’ll pick up a lot more tips than here.
